Loaf is a wholesale and retail bakery and café based at 1201-6th Ave, Fernie. Come see us for freshly made bread, cakes, pastries and coffee to-go, or stay for breakfast, lunch, drinks and snacks in our café. At nights we serve up authentic Italian-style thin crust pizzas made fresh to order, with cold beers and a selection of local BC wine.

Wholesale orders can also be delivered fresh to your door in the local area.

Fernie’s best pizza at Loaf Bakery

Voted ‘Best pizza in Fernie’ by readers of Fernie Fix magazine, 2011.

Loaf Bakery Pizzeria’s Italian-style pizza dough is handmade and topped with fresh cheese, vegetables and meat – no wonder Loaf’s pizza was voted Fernie’s best pizza in the Best of Fernie 2011 awards.

Like all Loaf’s products, our pizza dough only contains the core ingredients of flour, water, salt, yeast and olive oil – definitely no artificial preservatives or additives.

When is Loaf Bakery Pizzeria open?

Loaf pizzas are available every lunchtime as part of our lunch menu, when you can build your own 7″ pizza from a range of toppings.

Loaf Bakery Pizzeria is also open from 5pm every Friday & Saturday and from 11am Sunday with our pizza menu and build your own pizza Rosa.

Allergies and special dietary requirements

New lunch menu

Our new PLT sandwich is a Loaf head chef Billy Woodford’s take on the BLT sandwich.
It contains crispy prosciutto with roasted red peppers, cream cheese, tomato and leaves.

Back by popular demand are:

Black Forest Ham with cheddar, tomato, onion, dijonaise and leaves.

Fresh turkey with Swiss cheese, tomato, onion, dijonaise and leaves.

Avocado with roasted red peppers, cream cheese, tomato and leaves.

All sandwiches are available on Grainary, NY Deli Rye or Sourdough, and on weekends we offer extra specialty breads.

We also reintroduced the House salad, a big favourite with summer Loafers and all salads now

are available in large $12 or half size $6.

It contains avocado, pear, cherry tomato, mixed leaves, pistachio, feta and is topped with house dressing.

Loaf is all about real honest bread

Loaf Bakery specializes in ‘real honest bread’ – handmade in Fernie, British Columbia fresh every day.

Our team of skilled bakers works every night to weigh, knead and shape each loaf of bread by hand, ready to be sold fresh hours later at our cafe and store.

That’s why Loaf’s bread only contains the core ingredients of flour, water, salt, yeast and olive oil – definitely no artificial preservatives or additives.

We make over 30 bread varieties, including white, whole wheat classic loaves, a range of sourdough including multi-grain sourdough and whole wheat sourdough, rye and grainery loaves.

Our specialty breads include chocolate bread; apricot, fruit and nut bread; foccacia and chili bread.

On Saturdays at the bakery we let our customers sample a selection of the breads, so you can try before you buy.

Meet the Business owner: Phil Gadd

After visiting Fernie in 2003 (all the way from London, England) Phil Gadd, owner of Loaf Bakery, fell in love with the area and looked for ways to reside in Fernie permanently. As an avid snowboarder and mountain biker with a young family, Phil knew that Fernie was the perfect location to start a business and also enjoy the sports and activities that the area had to offer.

With no town bakery and a community interested in healthy lifestyle choices, Phil saw the obvious gap and felt that his ‘all natural’ products would be a good fit for Fernie so they did their research and found that there was great potential for a wholesale and retail bakery/cafe with a clear focus on competitive prices, artisan quality, freshly made, preservative & additive free products.

In the summer of 2009, after their paperwork came through, Phil arrived in Fernie and hit the ground running to get the bakery open in time for the winter season. In less than three months they fitted out the premises, sourced equipment, got their core team together, got all the paperwork and licenses in place and opened the doors.

Loaf Bakery had an incredible, hectic first year of business and their ever-growing wholesale accounts pushed them to expand into a new production unit. In 2010 they were voted Fernie’s ‘New Business of the Year’ by the Chamber of Commerce but their greatest achievement for the year was the arrival of their first Canadian baby born in July.
